About The Position

Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Educator, the Quality & Patient Safety Coordinator (Nursing) is responsible for supporting the coordination, monitoring, and implementation of quality improvement and patient safety initiatives across nursing and clinical operations. This role serves as an operational resource to ensure adherence to evidence-based practices, regulatory requirements, and internal standards that promote safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care. The coordinator supports data tracking, audits, workflow compliance, and performance improvement efforts, working closely with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams to strengthen clinical outcomes and operational reliability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an ambulatory care or clinical setting required
  • Strong organizational and data tracking skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to conduct audits, follow protocols, and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Strong communication skills with ability to engage and educate staff
  • Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and continuous learning

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or clinical training program strongly preferred
  • Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred
  • LPN/RN a plus but not required
  • Prior experience or strong interest in quality improvement, patient safety, or compliance preferred
  • Basic understanding of clinical workflows, patient care processes, and safety principles
  • Experience with EHR systems (Epic preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of quality improvement initiatives across clinical departments
  • Track and report on key nursing and organizational quality metrics (e.g., follow-up rates, missed visits, patient flow, vaccine administration, safety events)
  • Assist in developing and maintaining dashboards and reports for leadership and committees
  • Identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement and escalate to leadership
  • Support reporting, tracking, and follow-up of patient safety events, incidents, and near misses
  • Assist in conducting preliminary reviews and documentation of safety events
  • Coordinate follow-up actions, including communication with clinical teams and leadership
  • Promote a culture of safety through education, communication, and reinforcement of reporting practices
  • Conduct routine audits to ensure compliance with clinical workflows, policies, and regulatory standards (e.g., documentation compliance, vaccine workflows, infection control practices, medication processes)
  • Track audit findings and partner with leadership on corrective action plans
  • Support readiness for regulatory surveys (e.g., Joint Commission, DPH)
  • Maintain documentation and logs required for compliance and reporting
  • Maintain systems for tracking quality, safety, and performance data
  • Prepare regular reports for nursing leadership, quality committees, and executive teams
  • Support data validation and accuracy for internal and external reporting requirements
  • Assist in performance improvement projects using data-driven approaches
  • Support education efforts related to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
  • Reinforce standardized workflows, policies, and best practices with staff
  • Assist in development of tip sheets, communication materials, and training tools
  • Partner with the Clinical Education & Competency Coordinator to align training with identified gaps
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to improve clinical workflows and reduce variation
  • Identify inefficiencies and support implementation of process improvements
  • Support rollout of new workflows, policies, and quality initiatives
  • Reinforce team-based care models and top-of-license practice
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including nursing, providers, operations, and quality departments
  • Participate in quality and patient safety committees and meetings
  • Serve as a resource for staff regarding quality measures, workflows, and safety processes
  • Communicate updates and expectations related to quality and patient safety initiatives
