About the position

This position is responsible for managing the laboratory operations, overseeing lab testing and technicians, and ensuring compliance with quality control procedures and laboratory accreditation programs. The role involves sampling, testing, and inspecting construction materials in both laboratory and field settings to meet supplier and owner specifications.

Responsibilities

• Conduct sampling, testing, and inspection of soil, aggregate, hot mix asphalt (HMA), and Portland cement concrete (PCC) in both laboratory and field settings.
• Oversee and assign work schedules for technicians to ensure optimum use of resources.
• Train technicians on sampling, testing, and inspection of construction materials to prepare them for additional certification.
• Review sampling, testing, inspecting, and design results from Technicians to ensure quality standards are being met.
• Perform design of soils, HMA, or PCC to comply with supplier and/or owner specifications.
• Collaborate with production personnel to ensure material process corrections are implemented.
• Assist or conduct safety meetings and inspections to provide a safe working environment.
• Assist with customer service issues to ensure customer satisfaction levels are maintained.
• Maintain laboratory standards to ensure ongoing program state and national accreditations (AMRL, ASTM) are maintained with emphasis on lab equipment.
• Participate in and promote Granite's safety procedures to promote a safe working environment.

Requirements

• High school diploma required.
• Regional or State Agency certification for material being sampled, tested, inspected required.
• NICET III certification desired.
• 5+ years of related experience required.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to supervise technical staff.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
