About the position

The Publicity & Marketing Assistant at Workman and Artisan Books plays a crucial role in supporting the Publicity & Marketing team across various imprints. This position is designed for a motivated and detail-oriented individual eager to learn about publicity, marketing, social media, and event planning. The assistant will actively participate in traditional publicity campaigns and marketing initiatives, contributing to the promotion of a diverse range of lifestyle and nonfiction books.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior staff in the publicity and marketing department on lead campaigns by building media and partnership lists.
  • Pitch media and brand partnerships, create tour schedules, and schedule travel.
  • Arrange author escorts and write press releases and pitch letters.
  • Prepare promotional materials and coordinate mailings.
  • Research social media trends and assist with orchestrating social media influencer outreach and campaigns.
  • Organize social media schedules and contribute to research and ideation.
  • Independently own and manage publicity campaigns for select books, calendars, puzzles, and stationery lines.
  • Organize and coordinate author schedules and escort authors to NYC-area events and media where appropriate.
  • Administrative tasks including creation of seasonal schedules, maintenance of the department digital filing system, and managing monthly AmEx statements through Concur Solutions.

Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Prior publicity or public relations experience through coursework, part-time work, or internships is preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in reading and promoting nonfiction and lifestyle books.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • A strong focus on details and deadlines.
