About the position

Random House Children's Books is seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Publicist to join its Publicity team. This role involves overseeing publicity campaigns for various titles, including picture books, middle-grade, and YA novels, while also supporting senior team members on high-profile campaigns. The position is hybrid, requiring occasional presence in the New York City office, and offers the opportunity to work closely with authors, illustrators, and various media outlets to promote the company's publications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees publicity campaigns for assigned titles and supports senior members on high-profile campaigns.
  • Develops and manages relationships with authors and illustrators.
  • Pitches and secures media coverage across trade and consumer outlets.
  • Executes national multi-city author tours, in-store events, school appearances, and festival opportunities.
  • Interacts closely with internal Marketing, Sales, and Editorial teams, and collaborates with authors/illustrators, booksellers, and reviewers to create cohesive campaigns.
  • Meets with top media contacts to promote the book list for seasonal coverage.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in publicity or communications.
  • Experience and/or interest in Children's publishing is preferred.
  • Ability to conceptualize creative ideas for securing media coverage.
  • Willingness to travel for author appearances, including tours and events.
  • Knowledge of the media landscape and existing relationships with book reviewers is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational, attention to detail, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel; social media savvy.
