About the position
The Public Works Technician (I - V) in the Water Production Division is responsible for performing unskilled to semi-skilled labor in construction and maintenance activities related to water production and distribution. The role involves operating various equipment, performing manual labor tasks, and ensuring the maintenance of city vehicles and machinery. The position offers progressive responsibilities based on the technician level, from basic labor tasks to skilled equipment operation and team leadership.
Responsibilities
- Perform manual and semi-skilled laboring tasks related to refuse collection and recycling.
- Assist in the maintenance and construction of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on city vehicles and mechanical equipment.
- Operate small to heavy construction equipment as required.
- Follow safety procedures and utilize safety equipment to ensure a safe work environment.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate work activities.
- Perform inspections and repairs on fire hydrants and other utility systems.
- Lead and train other personnel in various tasks and equipment operation.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent experience in manual labor or construction for Level I.
- 10 Hr OSHA General or Construction Industry certification for Level II.
- Florida Commercial Driver's License Class B Permit for Level II and above.
- 30-Hour OSHA General or Construction Industry certification for Level III.
- ASE Certification and various equipment internal certifications for higher levels.
