About the position

The Public Works Maintenance Worker performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties, repair, and general construction work within the Public Works Department, specifically in the Street Division. This role is essential for maintaining city infrastructure and ensuring public safety through various maintenance tasks and operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform template painting of traffic regulatory signs, symbols, and other curb and street markings.
• Install or replace street signs and poles.
• Patch streets with asphalt and perform rough concrete work for curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and pathways.
• Pick up trash and debris from City facilities and remove fallen tree branches from streets.
• Collect trash daily and place debris in garbage dumpsters.
• Operate light- and medium-duty equipment and perform minor maintenance work on equipment and facilities.
• Assist other division crews and departments as needed, including trimming trees and clearing brush.
• Clean sewer lines and storm drains using appropriate equipment.
• Ensure compliance with the City's safe working policies and conditions.
• Clean work areas to maintain a safe working environment.
• Assist in setting up facilities for meetings and events, including City Council meetings.
• Operate a city vehicle and report maintenance needs.

Requirements

• Equivalent to High School Diploma or GED.
• One year of experience performing heavy manual labor, preferably in public works construction.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with basic maintenance methods and techniques in plumbing, carpentry, painting, minor electrical work, concrete, asphalt, landscaping, tree trimming, and irrigation systems.
