About the position

The position assists the Wastewater Collection Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendents in both the Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Rehabilitation divisions. The role involves directing and coordinating the activities of workers engaged in the installation, maintenance, repair, expansion, and relocation of wastewater lines. Responsibilities include taking delegated project assignments from the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents, ensuring project completion, and carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. The position also involves interviewing and training employees, planning and directing work, appraising performance, and addressing complaints. The individual is responsible for the overall direction and production of all crews assigned, primarily focusing on sanitary line problem identification and cleaning, as well as line replacement and repair. Continuous improvement in department operations, project completion time frames, and quality customer service is emphasized. The role includes conferring with upper management on project coordination, evaluating new developments in materials and equipment, inspecting field projects, and responding to emergency conditions. Additionally, the position assists in budget preparation and reviews completed work orders and overtime forms.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Wastewater Collection Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents in directing and coordinating activities of workers.
  • Take delegated project assignments and tasks from the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents and follow through until project completion.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Assist in the interviewing process and training employees.
  • Plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Direct and produce all crews assigned, focusing on sanitary line problem identification and cleaning.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort towards improvement in daily department operations.
  • Confer with and assist upper management in coordinating projects involving department personnel.
  • Assist upper management in evaluating new developments in materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Inspect field projects to confirm conformance to specifications.
  • Respond to emergency conditions by redirecting labor, materials, and supplies as necessary.
  • Assist with input in preparation of budget estimates for Wastewater Collection and Sewer Rehabilitation Divisions.
  • Review completed work orders and overtime forms daily.
  • Compose or assist in the composition of letters and reports for files, various agencies, and customers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2-3 years of sewer line, pipeline, or general construction supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of all wastewater laws and requirements for wastewater systems.
  • Ability to deal with the public and officials/representatives from other agencies.
  • Proficiency in related math calculations and knowledge of formulas and conversion tables.
  • Proven supervisory and management ability.
  • Valid Texas driver's license and a good driving record.
