About the position

The Public Outreach Associate will coordinate and execute communications, marketing, and public relations projects for the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders, as assigned by the Department Chair. The individual in this position will coordinate with the CEHS webmaster to maintain UNL website standards and to keep web content current and relevant; research and write stories about students, faculty, staff, alumni, and activities of the department for publication on website and marketing/communication materials; actively participate in recruitment efforts for students including attending recruitment events such as job fairs and professional organization meetings; and support the development of new programming for the recruitment of research participants. The position will also assist in the development of department initiatives by providing ongoing insights, enhancing operational procedures and recommending new communication mediums.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute communications, marketing, and public relations projects for the department.
  • Maintain UNL website standards and keep web content current and relevant.
  • Research and write stories about students, faculty, staff, alumni, and department activities for publication.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts for students, including attending job fairs and professional organization meetings.
  • Support the development of new programming for the recruitment of research participants.
  • Assist in the development of department initiatives by providing insights and recommending new communication mediums.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
  • Proficiency in web content management and social media platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in higher education or non-profit organizations.
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools and software.
  • Knowledge of special education and communication disorders.
