About the position

The Public Health Planner II will serve as a coordinator for facilitating the activities of the Austin Area HIV Planning Council. The employee will develop goals, objectives, and annual meeting agendas. He/she will assist with conducting the needs assessment, updating the integrated HIV prevention and care plan, and other relevant tasks, including basic research projects. This position is grant-funded, meaning its financial support comes from allocated funds that may be modified, reduced, or canceled at the discretion of the City of Austin or the grant provider. The position supports Austin Public Health's Mission and Core Purpose identified in the Austin Public Health Strategic Plan. When public health responds to an emergency, you may be assigned activities that are outside your regular job description. This may involve responding at any time, including nights and weekends, with possible deployment to locations other than Austin Public Health.

Responsibilities

  • Researches proposed alternatives for providing public health and/or human services.
  • Evaluates ongoing or proposed programs to determine efficiency, cost effectiveness, and program utilization.
  • Develops procedures for implementation of plans or programs.
  • Performs demographic statistical and epidemiological analysis.

Requirements

  • Graduation with a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to Social Work, Public Health, Public Administration, or Planning, plus two (2) years of experience in health or social service planning, or administrative experience.
  • OR Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to Social Work, Public Administration, or Planning, plus four (4) years of social service planning or administrative experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of comprehensive work in needs assessment planning and integrated planning process.
  • Experienced in research methods, statistical analysis, and survey techniques.
  • Experience with Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, Boards and Commissions, or any HIV-related programs.
  • Skilled in oral and written communications.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and collaborate with community members and stakeholders.
