About The Position

The Office of the Public Defender, District 15, seeks a qualified Administrative Assistant III to manage the paralegal and administrative staff and functions within the Public Defender's office. This position reports to the Public Defender. Work hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the court system to manage the criminal docket.
  • Knowledge of records management to maintain and furnish information about the status of the criminal docket and the disposition of cases.
  • Knowledge of interview and selection procedures to recommend or select staff.
  • Knowledge of local office programs and policies to participate in and/or direct others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
  • Ability to independently think through problems.
  • Ability to resolve and make decisions in leading and directing others.
  • Ability to deal with elected officials and other agency heads with substantial authority.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
  • Ability to supervise others, delegate authority, give instructions, and make decisions to keep a smooth running office.
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, criminology, police science, business administration, or other applicable discipline and two years of experience in specialty field or program areas related to the job; or equivalent education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Independently plan, design, and implement special studies, projects, or programs.
  • Serve as a member of the Public Defender's management team and participate in overall planning and evaluation of office operations.
  • Meet with key court officials who interact with the Public Defender's office to discuss and resolve problems.
  • Develop systems, policies, and procedures for office operations.
  • Supervise all non-legal support staff and manage work to accomplish the goals of the organization.
