About the position

The Perishable Associate at Food Lion plays a crucial role in delivering quality customer service within the Perishable Department. This position is centered around maintaining high standards in accordance with the standard practice manual, which is essential for maximizing sales through excellent customer service while minimizing shrinkage through proper utilization of standard practices. The associate will be responsible for creating a positive shopping experience by ensuring that customers receive fast, friendly, and accurate service. This role requires a commitment to maintaining an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness, which is vital for customer retention and satisfaction. In addition to customer service, the Perishable Associate will be tasked with various operational duties. These include receiving deliveries, coding products where applicable, and ensuring that items are rotated and stored correctly. The associate must maintain proper product levels across all areas of the Perishable Department, which includes meat, lunchmeat, frozen goods, dairy, and ice cream. The role also involves processing beef and grinds as directed, wrapping, labeling, weighing, and stocking the meat case as needed. Cleaning and sanitizing the department is a critical responsibility, as is maintaining variety and layout standards to ensure an appealing presentation of products. The associate will also be expected to understand and utilize company tools such as the average cost inventory system (ACIS) and ordering (CAO). Compliance with local, state, and federal regulations is mandatory, and the associate must adhere to Food Safety and Workplace Safety guidelines. Reporting any unsafe conditions or accidents is essential to maintain a safe environment for both associates and customers. The associate will wear the Food Lion uniform and maintain a neat appearance while on duty, completing all required training and performing any other assigned duties as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with primary emphasis on fast, friendly, and accurate customer service to create a positive shopping experience
  • Be courteous and helpful to other associates
  • Understand and use company tools such as average cost inventory system (ACIS) and ordering (CAO)
  • Receive deliveries, code where applicable, rotate and put in appropriate storage area
  • Ensure that ordering, receiving, preparation, conditioning and displaying of merchandise is done in accordance with policies and guidelines
  • Maintain proper product levels in all areas within the Perishable Department including meat, lunchmeat, frozen, dairy, ice cream
  • Process beef and grinds as directed from the planned production tool and as requested or needed
  • Wrap, label, weigh and stock meat case as requested or needed
  • Assemble, disassemble, and clean the grinder as requested or needed
  • Properly clean and sanitize the department
  • Maintain variety and layout standards
  • Ensure that all advertising and sales promotion materials applicable to the department are properly utilized
  • Maintain a complete understanding of and adherence to company guidelines, policies and standard practice
  • Understand and follow Food Safety and Workplace Safety guidelines and procedures
  • Observe and correct all unsafe conditions that could cause associate or customer accidents
  • Report all associate and customer accidents in accordance with established Food Lion procedures to the Manager on Duty
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations
  • Wear the Food Lion uniform with apron, complete with name badge, when on duty, has a neat and clean appearance while adhering to the Food Lion dress code
  • Successfully complete Computer Based Training (CBT), Training Packet and Training Aid courses
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
