About the position

The Spanish Instructor position is a part-time faculty role within the Academic Affairs department at Oregon Coast Community College. The instructor will be responsible for teaching Spanish courses, specifically Spanish 101, 102, and 103, which emphasize active communication in the language. The courses will be offered face-to-face starting in the Spring Term of 2025, with the term beginning on March 31, 2025. The position requires Oregon residency and a commitment to a student-centered approach to teaching. Responsibilities

  • Instruct students using approved course outcome guides and accurate syllabi.
  • Prepare instructional materials as needed.
  • Meet all assigned classes and apply the college's values for teaching and learning.
  • Facilitate learning that applies to students' academic and career goals.
  • Meet the curricular needs of students at various learning levels.
  • Encourage mutual responsibility for a supportive learning environment.
  • Provide effective teaching strategies that encourage student and instructor interaction.
  • Actively engage students in the learning process and encourage creative and critical thinking.
  • Evaluate and grade student progress, maintaining accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and scholastic progress.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and community partners.
  • Participate in institutional work to advance the College mission.
  • Engage in a reasonable amount of student contact outside of instruction to respond to questions and resolve course-related problems.
  • Comply with published College Policies and Procedures and maintain a safe learning and working environment.

Requirements

  • Preferred candidates will hold a Masters of Arts in the language.
  • An MAT in the language may be considered if accompanied by 30 graduate credit hours in the language, linguistics, literature, and culture.
  • Candidates holding a Master of Arts in a related field from an accredited university with a minimum of 30 graduate credit hours in the language may also be considered.
  • Native or near-native ability in Spanish (to be assessed through a proficiency interview).

Nice-to-haves

  • Recent experience teaching at the college level or teaching adults of varying skill levels.
