About the position

The Psychometrician at Pearson is responsible for conducting item and test analysis, equating, standard setting, and item bank design and analysis. This role involves planning and conducting original research related to computer-based testing and measurement theory, ensuring the production of quality tests that impact the validity and reliability of client deliverables. The Psychometrician collaborates closely with the Content Development team and other testing services staff, promoting Pearson VUE's scientific reputation through presentations and publications at industry conferences and journals.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct item and test analysis, equating, and standard setting.
  • Design and analyze item banks and perform psychometric activities.
  • Plan and conduct original research related to computer-based testing.
  • Collaborate with the Content Development team to ensure quality tests.
  • Manipulate and validate data files for measurement services.
  • Identify and develop scoring methods for tests.
  • Analyze test and item-level results using appropriate methods.
  • Maintain item bank and ensure it meets program needs.
  • Produce technical documentation related to test performance.
  • Develop test design including specifications and pretest strategy.
  • Identify research components of customer programs and develop proposals.
  • Present research findings at conferences and submit for publication.
  • Interact with clients for job analysis and measurement explanations.
  • Work with technology teams to define software specifications.
  • Participate in internal training and professional development.

Requirements

  • PhD in Psychometrics, Educational Measurement, or related field.
  • 1 year of experience in a related position.
  • Experience in applied test development and large-scale examinations.
  • Knowledge of test theory (IRT and Classical).
  • Proficiency in statistical software (SAS, R, Python, SPSS).
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to summarize complex technical information for diverse audiences.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with research literature and participation in research studies.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with databases and item-banking.
  • Familiarity with computer-based test construction and development.
