About the position

The Psychologist II position within the Colorado Department of Corrections is responsible for providing leadership and vision for the mental health clinical program. This role involves delivering mental health services to inmates, consulting with correctional staff, and ensuring the standard of care is maintained within the clinical program. The psychologist will also oversee day-to-day operations, conduct assessments, provide therapy, and ensure continuity of care for offenders with mental health needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health services to inmates and consultation to correctional staff.
  • Maintain the standard of care for the clinical program.
  • Oversee day-to-day mental health operations of the assigned unit.
  • Interface with Clinical Services administration and other departments.
  • Investigate and resolve offender grievances and conflicts.
  • Maintain comprehensive mental health records for offenders.
  • Provide training and consultation on mental health issues to facility and community providers.
  • Conduct formal and informal mental health evaluations and assessments.
  • Provide group, brief, and individual therapy, including crisis intervention.
  • Ensure emergency and non-emergency transfers for offenders with acute mental health needs.
  • Direct non-clinical staff regarding mental health care and treatment.
  • Oversee assessments and diagnostic treatment processes.
  • Implement policies to promote quality care and ensure accreditation compliance.

Requirements

  • Current, valid licensure as a Psychologist from the Colorado State Board of Psychologist Examiners.
  • Three years of experience as a licensed psychologist, with two years at the level of a fully operating psychologist.

Nice-to-haves

  • Extensive experience with psychological testing and assessment.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision of post-doctoral psychologists.
