About the position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is a health care agency whose mission is to promote the overall health and wellness of persons with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of holistic, comprehensive, effective, and efficient services and supports that foster dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency in those we serve. We are currently seeking a Psychologist (Clinical) to join our team within Southwest Connecticut Mental Health System (SWCMHS). The Clinical Psychologist performs a full range of psychological services for clients of Greater Bridgeport Mental Health Center outpatient Diagnostic Evaluation Unit (DEC). Within the DEC, the Clinical Psychologist is responsible for the scheduling and evaluation of clients referred from area hospitals, walk-ins and client self-referrals. The Clinical Psychologist performs diagnostic testing, psychological measurement and evaluation, crisis intervention and psychotherapy, prepares psychological evaluation reports and formulates treatment recommendations as an integral part of the GBMHC team.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in and coordinates clinical psychological services for a complex ward or group of wards or comparable units staffed by psychiatric, nursing or other individual care personnel.
  • Provides consultation on difficult cases representing complex intellectual, emotional and/or social problems.
  • Engages in diagnostic and psychotherapeutic services.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Coordinates psychological treatment modalities with other disciplines and services.
  • Develops and implements new service programs.
  • Conducts research and reports findings in a manner suitable for professional publication.
  • Consults with community agencies and organizations.
  • Conducts training sessions for interns and staff and may participate in training of psychiatric residents.
  • May address lay and professional groups.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • A doctorate degree in clinical or counseling psychology.
  • One (1) year of post-doctoral experience as a psychologist working under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.
  • Possess and retain a license to practice psychology in Connecticut.
  • Eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. § 1320a-7b(f).
  • May be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of American Sign Language.

  • Experience in community outreach and education.
  • Familiarity with psychological research methodology including experimental design and data analysis.
  • Ability to coordinate clinical services with comprehensive and multidisciplinary treatment plans.
