About the position

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking entry-level psychiatrists to provide comprehensive psychiatric care to a diverse population, including geriatric and post-deployment combat veterans. The role involves performing evaluations, therapeutic interventions, and managing care for patients with psychiatric and substance use disorders. Opportunities for hybrid work are available, allowing for up to two days of telework per week.

Responsibilities

• Perform psychiatric and substance use disorder evaluations for veterans.
• Provide a full range of therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessment and medication management.
• Conduct suicide risk assessments and crisis intervention.
• Deliver outpatient care via face-to-face and telehealth methods.
• Work with the Consult Liaison Team to provide coverage to Med/Surg units.
• Float across various mental health programs, covering inpatient, outpatient, and domiciliary services.
• Perform psychiatric evaluations and treatment planning for veterans with psychosocial issues.
• Visit veterans in-person or via telehealth for home-based primary care.
• Provide mental health intensive case management services for seriously mentally ill veterans.

Requirements

• Medical degree (MD or DO) with a full and unrestricted license from any US State.
• Board certification in psychiatry is preferred but not mandatory.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working with geriatric populations or veterans.
