About the position

The Psychiatric Nursing Assistant II (PNA II) plays a crucial role in providing rehabilitative patient care services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient psychiatric setting. This position focuses on delivering quality psychiatric nursing care, maintaining therapeutic interactions with patients, and supporting their recovery journey. The PNA II is responsible for assisting with daily living activities, monitoring patient conditions, and participating in treatment planning and team meetings, all while promoting a safe and supportive environment for patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care services under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Assist with activities of daily living, hygiene, and eating to promote independence and self-care.
  • Monitor patients for medication administration or treatment, including taking vital signs.
  • Engage in therapeutic interactions with patients to promote living and social skills.
  • Document patient conditions and behaviors in an electronic record.
  • Participate in individualized and unit-based programming.
  • Co-facilitate groups and promote patient participation in classes and programs.
  • Respond to psychiatric emergencies using least restrictive interventions.
  • Provide guidance and preceptorship to PNA I staff as needed.
  • Attend shift reports and recovery team meetings.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent OR twelve (12) months' work experience.
  • Direct care experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of patient care techniques and treatment programs.
  • Basic computer skills and documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide first aid or CPR and conduct TIPS.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a psychiatric or healthcare setting.
  • Certification in CPR or first aid.
