About the position

A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is a licensed professional who practices as an independent clinician in mental health. They perform a wide range of clinical duties as advanced nurse practitioners, providing care to adults and families in mental and behavioral health settings. Additionally, PMHNP or APRN are required to corroborate with a psychiatrist. PMHPs and APRNs play a vital role in mental healthcare, conducts thorough mental health assessments, accurately diagnose conditions, and effectively ordering and interpreting tests, ensuring clients in mental health receive the best possible treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of clinical duties within the scope of practice under the guidance of a Director of Psychiatry or Chief Medical Officer.
  • Provide psychiatric care for clients.
  • Consult with corroborating psychiatrist on cases that are beyond the scope of qualification of PHMNP.
  • Put all relevant patient data in medical records and case presentations.
  • Provide guidance and consultation to the clinic's nursing as well as interdisciplinary staff for the wellbeing of clients.
  • Ensure quality performance metrics are met.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary team to ensure proper diagnosis and therapeutic treatment planning.
  • Develop appropriate treatment plans and provide effective management of client care with proper evaluation.
  • Order, perform and interpret tests.
  • Prescribe medication for acute and chronic conditions.
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments.
  • Diagnose and treat illnesses.
  • Educate patients and families about wellbeing and self-care.
  • Promote healthcare and health maintenance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possess bachelor's degree in nursing followed by a master's degree in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing from a state approved and accredited school for professional nursing training.
  • At least two years' experience practicing as a PMHP.
  • Possess and maintain PMHP licensure in MO, which must be unrestricted, current, complete, and active.
  • Proficient in the English Language, both in writing and speaking.
  • Obtain Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification from the American Nurse Credentialing Center or licensure.
  • Possess strong computer skills, including working with word processing and data entering applications.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds.
