About the position

The Protestant Musician position at Hill Air Force Base involves providing musical accompaniment for Protestant worship services and special events. The musician will work under the oversight of the assigned chaplain and in coordination with the Protestant choir director, ensuring that all musical needs for the services are met. This role requires a commitment to weekly services, rehearsals, and special events, with a focus on a variety of musical styles suitable for worship.

Responsibilities

  • Provide musical accompaniment for all Protestant worship services and special services.
  • Attend all weekly choir practices and services associated with the Sunday Protestant Worship Service.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled rehearsals and manage the setup and breakdown for the choir.
  • Assist in recruiting special musicians from the congregation and other sources as necessary.
  • Be available for special services during liturgical seasons such as memorial services, Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter.
  • Secure a suitable replacement when necessary and notify the service chaplain of any absences.
  • Provide a two-week notice for any extended absence and arrange for a qualified substitute.
  • Maintain records of qualifications and obtain periodic training as required.
  • Comply with all government and chapel regulations regarding service performance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years' experience in keyboard/piano accompaniment.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of music including gospel, contemporary, traditional, and liturgical Protestant service music.
  • Bachelor's degree in music preferred, or five years of experience can substitute for education.
  • Minimum of two years of church accompanist work or equivalent musician experience.
  • Experience in church or military chapel accompanist work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with digital organ and keyboard accompaniment.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate music for the year.
