About The Position

We’re seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Water team in Massachusetts. This position can be based in Hyannis or Burlington. In this role, you will lead the charge on planning, design, and construction for a variety of water-related projects—including wastewater, drinking water, and stormwater systems—that serve communities across the region. As a Project Manager, you’ll take ownership of key project tasks such as conducting planning studies, preparing engineering reports, and overseeing design and construction efforts. You’ll lead multi-disciplinary teams, troubleshoot complex system operations, and develop innovative solutions for treatment and conveyance challenges. Your expertise will guide compliance reviews with state and federal regulations, and you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping layouts for treatment facilities and collection systems. Beyond technical leadership, you’ll engage with clients and consultants, manage budgets and schedules, and contribute to professional societies—ensuring your work drives both operational excellence and industry advancement. Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or other relevant Engineering discipline
  • Professional Engineer license in Massachusetts or have the ability to obtain within 2 years
  • 10+ years of municipal water/wastewater/stormwater experience; previous work in the State of Massachusetts is a plus
  • Water and wastewater planning, design (collection systems, pump stations, wastewater and/or water treatment facilities), construction experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a design brief (for example, in terms of functionality, performance, aesthetics, and cost) that conforms to organizational and/or regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to the analysis of information, the drafting of engineering standards and specifications, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of those standards within own engineering discipline to inform engineering work in the organization and/or of its suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
  • Deliver small- or medium-scale projects while working within an established program management plan.
  • Analyze information and specify the methods and process steps, as well as the plant, machinery, and equipment, required to design and continuously improve manufacturing or materials processes and process systems to deliver the end product within specified cost and quality parameters.
  • Deliver required outcomes by managing day-to-day relationships with contract service providers while working within an established contract management plan.
  • Define and deliver products and services that meet customer needs by selecting the best possible approaches available within established systems.
  • Work within established knowledge management systems to deliver preset outcomes for an area of responsibility.
  • Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Carry out inspections to evaluate the quality of engineering works and/or the integrity of existing installations or structures, and specify the remedial works needed to ensure conformance with specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify shortcomings in existing processes, systems, and procedures, and use established change management programs to address them.
  • Manage relationships with small clients while also helping senior colleagues manage relationships with larger key clients and customers.
