About the position

The Project Manager - Transportation Hydraulic Design at HNTB is responsible for managing transportation projects throughout their full lifecycle, ensuring high-quality delivery on time and within budget. This role involves developing project scopes, managing client relationships, overseeing technical tasks, and coordinating with various teams to address design-related issues. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise and leadership skills while contributing to the successful execution of water resource components in transportation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project scope and fee quotations, assisting in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts.
  • Serve as the primary client liaison, managing the project team to deliver scope, schedule, and budgets to completion.
  • Perform technical discipline tasks including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.
  • Implement the firm's project delivery plan and lead the development and execution of the project management plan.
  • Coordinate with managers on project staffing, including recruitment, development, and retention of project staff.
  • Assist with business development and client relationship building for strategic projects.
  • Lead proposal development and interview presentations for strategic projects.
  • May be responsible for recruitment, hiring, and development of staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 8 years of relevant experience
  • 2 years of task management or Deputy PM experience

Nice-to-haves

  • Local municipal and/or Michigan DOT experience and relationships
  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • 10 years of relevant experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Michigan or ability to become licensed in Michigan within 6 months
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working on transportation projects
  • Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) hydraulic design experience
  • Experience using MicroStation and Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
  • Experience using HY-8, HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS
  • Desire to mentor other design staff
