About the position

The Project Engineer - Structural/Bridge position at Spicer Group involves providing engineering support within the Structural Services Group, focusing on bridge rehabilitations, replacements, and structural design solutions for various industries. The role requires collaboration with a team of engineers and designers to prepare designs, specifications, calculations, and cost estimates for projects across Michigan and beyond. Responsibilities

• Completing lead activities for the preparation of proposals for projects and assisting project managers with budgeting, scheduling, and directing subordinates.
• Leading a team of design engineers and coordinating project tasks for timely deliverables.
• Developing design plans, specifications, and cost estimates for structural and/or bridge projects.
• Completing bridge field condition assessments and developing repair recommendations and cost estimates.
• Quality control of all work products prepared under direction.
• Coordinating and communicating with team members, clients, contractors, and outside consultants.
• Making recommendations for modifications when necessary.
• Conducting periodic visits to construction sites to review conditions.
• Attending project meetings, public hearings, and making presentations for new projects.
• Maintaining current knowledge of the work being performed through professional publications and meetings.
• Exercising judgment in the evaluation and modification of standard techniques and procedures.
• Planning, scheduling, and coordinating engineering work involving complex features.
• Supervising less experienced engineers and support personnel.
• Resolving design problems through field investigations and detailed design work.
• Assisting with business development and marketing responsibilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a structural focus.
• Professional Engineer licensed in Michigan, or ability to obtain within 1 year.
• Minimum of 5 years of related experience in bridge engineering or general structural engineering.
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Work experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Familiarity with MDOT Bridge Design procedures is a plus.
• Experience with structural engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCAD.
