About the position

The position involves conducting Heart and Vascular focused research on multiple projects, collaborating with others in the research group to develop research approaches and designs, and executing deliverables in support of these projects. The role may also include contributing to writing related papers and grant proposals to support research activities. Additionally, the position may involve working on projects with grant funding and clinical trial schedules, along with various process improvement and administrative duties.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a major contributing member to the research program, participating in the development of the research hypothesis and planning the project parameters and scope.
  • Independently conducts research on aspects of multiple projects and provides leadership to others participating in the project.
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets data resulting from projects and presents findings and their significance in various settings such as lab meetings and conferences.
  • May author or co-author research findings and present at national conferences.
  • May find/obtain funding for research projects and write grant proposals and applications.
  • May hire, supervise, train, and evaluate staff and student assistants to meet changing department needs.
  • Oversees general laboratory operations to ensure proper methods, procedures, and techniques and provides technical guidance and direction.
  • Advises on the need for and type of equipment and supply purchase, use, maintenance, and availability.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of study with five (5) years of research experience or the equivalent in education and experience required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory and research methods, procedures, and techniques as well as equipment and instruments.
  • Experience in animal models or a strong background with human research will be necessary depending on the assigned area.
  • A scientific background in an environmental, chemical or biological field preferred.
  • Prior experience with IRB, regulatory oversight of clinical trials and knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) preferred.
  • Willingness to be exposed to and work with hazardous and or infectious materials and/or hazardous chemicals.
  • Exceptional organizational and management skills to plan and organize the research approach and project parameters.
  • Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking and sound judgment.
  • Ability to manage laboratory inventory and records.
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of computer software applications used for research investigations and data analysis and presentation as well as online search engines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree or PhD or foreign equivalent in relevant field, preferred.
