About the position

As a Project Accountant at Ledcor, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely entry and reporting of financial data within the company's systems. This role involves managing various financial aspects such as accounts receivable, subcontractor payments, payroll processing, and supporting month-end close activities. You will work closely with management and project teams to ensure data accuracy and completeness, contributing to the overall financial health of the projects.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage effective project cost control systems
  • Understand and communicate project contractual and commercial terms
  • Provide leadership with accurate cost reporting and strategic insights
  • Contribute to the development and execution of collective agreements
  • Coordinate the collection and submission of invoicing documentation (e.g., statutory declarations, WCB clearance letters)
  • Prepare and submit LEMs (Labour, Equipment, and Materials reports) to clients
  • Collect and validate third-party invoices to support client billings
  • Prepare progress billings, invoices, and holdback releases
  • Process electronic billing submissions and reconcile with client billing systems
  • Collaborate with clients to resolve payment issues and assist in payment collection
  • Extract and process equipment usage data for weekly/monthly reports
  • Monitor outside rental agreements and ensure compliance with contracts
  • Coordinate with field teams and payroll to ensure timely time entry completion
  • Support project managers in identifying potential change orders
  • Oversee subcontractor management
  • Prepare month-end journal entries

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Post-secondary business degree
  • Experience within commercial construction, Telecom, or a related industry is preferred
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards or similar large ERP is preferred
  • Working knowledge of construction methods
  • Financial acumen regarding equipment utilization, rates, equipment capital decisions, and profitability analysis
  • Working knowledge of construction accounting principles
  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
