About The Position

To provide a safe, inclusive environment promoting wellness, teamwork and athletics. Teach and coach students’ in the fundamentals of baseball and softball, implementing life skills, teamwork, communication, sportsmanship and positive behaviors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Valid Florida teaching certificate or have applied to obtain a Florida teaching certificate in Physical Education or related field.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid prior to the first day of work.
  • One (1) year of coaching or teacher leader experience to include leading professional learning and using coaching competencies.
  • Three (3) years of teaching required, health and physical courses preferred.
  • Knowledge of teaching and learning processes.
  • Knowledge of the program area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of organization and management theory and practice.
  • Knowledge and commitment to decentralized decision-making and accountability for results that facilitate creative processes toward the achievement of district goals.
  • Knowledge of education theory and practice in Health and Physical education coursework.
  • Knowledge in coaching baseball/softball and the ability to develop players.
  • Ability to ensure safety of students while training and playing baseball/softball.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Coaching experience and certification.
  • Pedagogical and content expertise in teaching physical education and health.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with people to focus resources (both human and financial) toward the achievement of district goals.
  • Ability to facilitate group processes in consensus building, conflict resolution, planning and decision-making.
  • Understands that quality teaching and learning are the essential processes and product of public schools and has the ability to focus human and financial resources toward this goal.
  • Experience with the OCPS framework of coaching support and training such as Modeling, Co-Teaching, Co-Facilitating, Asking Questions and Providing Feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Implement a physical education program for students in grades 3-6, promoting physical fitness, wellness and healthy lifestyle.
  • Teach fundamental baseball and softball skills, including throwing, catching, fielding, batting and baserunning. Teach strategies, rules, position and situational plays.
  • Design and implement age appropriate practice plans to support skill development and progression.
  • Organize practices, games, tournament and related activities. Maintain athletic equipment and ensure proper use, care and storage of all equipment.
  • Coach baseball and softball teams during weekend tournaments throughout the school year.
  • Foster teamwork, communication, leadership, sportsmanship and positive behaviors, reinforcing life skills. Build confidence and encourage participation from all skill levels.
  • Maintain a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment. Emphasize proper techniques, safety procedures and injury prevention.
  • Communicate regularly with school administration, staff and families regarding student progress and program activities.
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to all HRMD guidelines and the district’s instructional initiatives.
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to fixed assets.
  • Develop leadership in subordinates.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for maintaining timely and accurate information and accountable for the quality of information maintained by those they supervise.
  • Responsible for self-development and keeping up to date on current research, trends, and best practices relevant to the area of responsibility.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
