About the position

The position involves responding to and participating in the investigation of inquiries and complaints from parents, students, community members, and others. The role includes implementing programs and processes that protect students, support inclusion, and ensure safe and healthy learning environments.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to and participates in the investigation of inquiries and concerns from Regional Offices of Education, Intermediate Service Centers, districts, schools, parents, students, the general public and all other relevant stakeholders with respect to all areas under the department's purview.
  • Provides assistance to agency staff who have questions with respect to compliance issues in program areas to ensure effective cross-department collaboration on common issues.
  • Provides general support and technical assistance to parents and students with respect to ensuring that the needs of the whole child are met for each and every student in Illinois.
  • Under identified parameters, researches, collects, analyzes, and disseminates information on topics of priority for the department including, but not limited to, student discipline, bullying, inclusion and time-out and physical restraint.
  • Under identified parameters, participates in the Agency's Student Advisory Council (SAC) program.
  • Meets with SAC members and organizes topical discussions for presentations to the State Board.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Education, Social Work, School Psychology, Special Education or Education related field, or, Bachelor's degree in one of the listed fields plus two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Two years of relevant professional experience in a public school district, Regional Office of Education, special education cooperative, area vocational center, State or Federal Education Agency.
  • Experience with research in and application of the mandates of the Illinois School Code.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Illinois School Code.

  • Fluency in Spanish.
