About the position

The Chicago Immunoengineering Innovation Center (CIIC) brings together basic and translational researchers in engineering, immunology, and various clinical departments with a mission to support and enable innovative solutions in the way we diagnose and treat diseases. The Program Manager (PM) manages the activities, resources, and research infrastructure of the CIIC.

Responsibilities

  • Helps develop and execute the strategic plan for the CIIC, encompassing scientific priorities, research infrastructure, funding strategies, communications, and partnerships.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of shared research infrastructure, focusing on shared user and core facilities, and manages affiliated staff.
  • Manages the activities, personnel, and finances around the Single Cell Immunophenotyping Core facility, including overseeing the development of shared resources, establishing equipment and service protocols, structuring fees, and engaging with scientific and technical directors.
  • Manages team science initiatives that involve University of Chicago Medicine, the Biological Sciences Division, Physical Sciences Division, CZ Biohub Chicago partners, and additional external stakeholders.
  • Contributes to the writing and development of funding plans and multi-investigator grant proposals and engages with federal, non-profit, philanthropic, and corporate sources.
  • Ensures compliance with requirements of funding sources (e.g., submitting program plans, providing progress reports, final reports, etc.).
  • Manages the Immunoengineering Postdoctoral Training (ImEPosT) T32 Program, ensuring the program runs on budget and that all postdoctoral fellows complete training objectives in a timely fashion.
  • Organizes and implements immunoengineering-oriented programming as components of larger PME-led initiatives, including alumni/industry days, recruitment days (for PhD, MS students), and fundraising events.
  • Organizes and implements Immunoengineering-oriented programming for faculty and trainees: Works-in-Progress Seminars, Grant Writing Workshops, Fundraising activities, Alumni/Industry Workshops.
  • Collaborates with PME's and UChicago's marketing and communications team to develop and execute a communications plan to enhance the visibility of the CIIC and to generate targeted material for diverse audiences.
  • Develops and communicates program priorities and performance standards and assesses operations using these criteria. Plans and conducts quality assurance reviews and recommends changes as appropriate.
  • Manages program budgets and recommends or makes budgetary recommendations.
  • Has a deep understanding when interacting with faculty, researchers and staff for committee work or information.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
  • Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate degree in bioengineering, immunology, or a related field.
  • Scientific writing and/or grant and proposal development experience.
  • Familiarity with the higher education environment.
