About the position

The Program Coordinator position at Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center involves coordinating support groups and providing social work services to local synagogues and the unaffiliated Jewish population. The role focuses on employment support services, information referral, and community outreach, with an emphasis on assisting individuals in need within Suffolk County.

Responsibilities

  • Complete support group intake assessments, schedule and form support groups; communicate with session workers and participants as needed.
  • Provide information and referrals to community services and other providers.
  • Maintain referral list of community and social service resources, employment resources and refer clients as appropriate.
  • Maintain relationships with current partner synagogues; outreach to non-partner synagogues to develop new partnerships.
  • Provide consulting and referral services to partner synagogues, their professional staff and membership.
  • Link clients to SYJCC support services.
  • Maintain records and statistics of community and individual contacts and events for grant reporting.
  • Complete required grant reports as required by funding agencies.
  • Perform outreach to those in Suffolk County who are unemployed, underemployed, or considering a change in career.
  • Screen potential clients; assess for employment-related and other counseling and social service needs, make appropriate connections and referrals.
  • Design and implement employment services workshops and speakers.
  • Maintain a database of active participants in support groups, employment services, and recipients of products/services.
  • Support pantry activities including community food and special drives, holiday collections and coordinating synagogue initiatives to support the pantry.
  • Assist with community event planning, outreach and coordination with synagogues.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • MSW required; licensure required
  • Experience working with all ages
  • Experience with assessing client needs
  • Familiar with local resources and services
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Able to use Microsoft Office and email
  • Have own car for off-site commitments
