About the position

The Program Coordinator for Summer Camp 2025 at Southern District YMCA is a seasonal leadership role responsible for overseeing the camp's operations from June to August. This position involves managing staff, scheduling activities, and ensuring a high-quality experience for campers and their families. The coordinator will lead program development, facilitate training, and maintain effective communication with the camp team, all while embodying the YMCA's mission of youth development and community strengthening.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality camp experiences through excellent customer service.
  • Supervise all Program Leads and evaluate their performance.
  • Coordinate weekly program offerings and oversee camper sign-up processes.
  • Build weekly schedules that align staff with activities based on their skills and passions.
  • Plan and facilitate all-camp activities for campers entering grades K-9.
  • Actively supervise staff and campers throughout the day.
  • Deliver staff training sessions on various programs.
  • Organize daily amphitheater events and special activities.
  • Manage theme day organization and communication.
  • Conduct morning meetings with Program Leads.
  • Confirm proper attendance across camp throughout the day.
  • Assist with ordering program supplies for all programs.
  • Maintain program areas and equipment to high standards.
  • Communicate needs to the Assistant Camp Director in a timely manner.
  • Remain calm during emergencies and assist with special events and fundraising campaigns.
  • Build positive relationships with campers, parents, and staff to enhance the camp experience.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries and report any suspicious behaviors.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years leadership and childcare experience.
  • Passion for program development and coaching.
  • Teaching, facilitating, and team-building experience preferred.
  • Supervisory and staff development experience.
  • Administrative experience with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of computers and common software like Word and Excel.
  • Ability to delegate responsibilities effectively and support team members.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.

  • Experience in program development and curriculum design.
