About the position

The Program Coordinator for the Department of Community and Behavioral Health at the University of Iowa plays a crucial role in enhancing relationships between communities affected by environmental pollutants and researchers involved in the Iowa Superfund Research Program (ISRP). This position involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including community partners and environmental regulators, to support community-engaged research, project development, and dissemination of scientific results. The coordinator will also assist in administrative tasks related to community engagement and have opportunities to participate in research activities.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and administer daily operational activities associated with the ISRP Community Engagement Core (CEC) program.
  • Analyze program data, develop reports, and oversee activities including ongoing coordination of events.
  • Coordinate training, scheduling, and oversight of CEC volunteers, work study students, graduate assistants, and program staff.
  • Present information about the ISRP program to new partners and provide information at vendor tables and conferences.
  • Maintain the calendar of CEC activities for the CEC Director and ISRP.
  • Respond to email correspondence on behalf of the CEC and accurately represent the goals and expectations of the CEC Director.
  • Organize meetings, including sending calendar invites, follow-up emails, and formatting agendas.
  • Maintain a database of names, organizations, and contact data for all individuals interacting with the CEC.
  • Prepare, proofread, and edit correspondence with CEC partners and annual reports for grant agencies.
  • Collaborate closely with the ISRP Administrative Core for consistency in grant management activities.
  • Participate in training opportunities identified by ISRP leadership and attend meetings of the NIEHS Superfund Research Program.
  • Provide functional supervision for program staff and students, ensuring program outcomes are achieved.
  • Support budget preparation and tracking for the ISRP Community Engagement Core Director.
  • Research grant opportunities, develop proposals, and assist with grant writing to support the program.
  • Work with the CEC Director to develop tailored content for community engagement best practices.
  • Communicate and collaborate with outside agencies regarding the ISRP program and manage community-engagement-related updates of ISRP webpages.
  • Evaluate programs to improve and strengthen overall program offerings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public health or related social or environmental science field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience and/or training in community engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in public health or related social or environmental science field.
  • Bilingual writing and speaking skills in English and Spanish.
  • Experience with community-based organizations.
  • Experience with K-12 public school system.
  • Experience in research design/methods; environmental justice; health communication.
