About the position

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking a Professor and Chair for the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science (MEES). This role involves providing strategic leadership, promoting excellence in academic and research programs, and overseeing the daily operations of the department. The Chair will engage with faculty, staff, and students to develop long-term strategic plans, enhance national recognition, and ensure student success through curriculum innovations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and promote excellence in departmental programs.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, advisory board members, and students to develop long-term strategic plans.
  • Advance research and pedagogy initiatives through faculty recruitment and support.
  • Increase national recognition and identify funding opportunities for student and faculty support.
  • Ensure student success and retention through curriculum evaluation and innovations.
  • Oversee daily departmental operations including budget management and personnel supervision.
  • Develop strategies to increase enrollment in graduate and undergraduate programs.
  • Support staff in their professional development activities.
  • Conduct research and disseminate scholarly work in relevant fields.
  • Teach courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven academic record of scholarly accomplishment, teaching, and administrative leadership in mechanical engineering or a related field.
