Caterpillar’s Resource Industries Operations and Products division is currently seeking a Production Manager at the Tucson Proving Ground in Green Valley, AZ. As a Production Manager at the Tucson Proving Ground, you will supervise and provide leadership to a highly competent team of up to 25 mechanics and fabricators that work on almost every variety of yellow iron that Caterpillar manufactures. We especially help our Resource Industry product groups modify, test and evaluate new technologies before they reach our customers. Above all, we promote a safe work environment for everyone by demonstrating our Safety Driven culture. You will own the value stream metrics for your respective section and collaborate with support groups in the implementation of changes needed. You will drive continuous improvement efforts as well as practice and teach LEAN principles. Our Production Managers play a key role in our success by leading our mechanic and fabrication teams while maximizing efficiency in quality, velocity, and cost. At the Tucson Proving Ground, our product is our test data. This test data helps us drive Advanced Technology to help solve our customers’ toughest challenges. Requirements

  • Quality Management Knowledge of quality management methods, including Built In Quality tools, and techniques and the ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.
  • Planning and Organizing Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way.
  • Process Improvement Understanding and insight into evaluating current product quality and production methods and ability to maintain focus on the continuous improvement of processes, products, and services.
  • Effective Communications Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, and information.
  • You will be required to give daily shift start meetings, train others, interact with customers, and lead tour groups.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in any of the following areas: mining, construction, test/validation, heavy equipment dealers, or a factory environment.
  • Experience with assembling or maintaining Caterpillar mining equipment.
  • Familiarity with machining, fabrication, and mine fleet health.
  • Machine operation experience or hands-on mechanical/test experience in mining, quarry, construction, and/or earthmoving operations including haul trucks, shovels, excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, or underground mining equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and improve shop floor safety, eliminate any unsafe operations, and ensure a safe and clean test environment.
  • Schedule and prioritize constrained resources and adjust staffing to meet flow and customer requirements.
  • Use visual management tools including IronFlow to track project workflow performance.
  • Manage team performance and development.
  • Increase production efficiency through continuous improvement and waste elimination via LEAN principles.
  • Initiate and conduct process improvement dialogs with Team Leads and Team Members.
  • Lead section status reporting and monitor/audit section metrics.
  • Lead the creation, implementation, and training of standard work procedures.
  • Present during daily shift start meetings, train others, interact with customers and lead tour groups.
