About The Position

The Produce Lead is responsible for ensuring the highest level of service to Outpost’s internal and external customers. This role involves properly receiving and storing all produce deliveries, and maintaining a well-maintained, clean, and efficient produce department. The position operates in a fast-paced retail environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts, working at heights, and cold conditions. The role also requires working in moderate to loud noise environments and during busy retail times, including weekends, afternoons, and evenings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide efficient, informative, and friendly customer service.
  • Ensure professional and friendly service from all produce staff.
  • Handle customer questions and complaints.
  • Make product recommendations to customers and become familiar with different types of produce and their preparation.
  • Order product from vendors/farmers to ensure the department is fully stocked while minimizing inventory.
  • Receive and check in produce deliveries, noting discrepancies and notifying the manager.
  • Properly label, date, and store deliveries, maintaining proper rotation and segregation of organic and conventional items.
  • Log all invoices and accurately record markdowns and losses.
  • Prep produce for stocking on the sales floor and stock produce in a timely and organized manner.
  • Maintain clean, organized, well-stocked, and attractive produce display areas and backstock areas.
  • Uphold department sanitation standards and food storage/handling requirements.
  • Follow safety guidelines for lifting, knife handling, and equipment operation.
  • Assist with quarterly inventory and attend department meetings.
  • Perform all duties included in department clerk job descriptions.
  • Delegate duties to produce staff and ensure they are productive.
  • Positively encourage department staff to excel.
  • Replace vacant shifts due to call-ins and notify the manager.
  • Assist in training department staff and ensure they follow standard operating procedures.
  • Abide by all Co-op policies and procedures.
  • Keep the store orderly and clean.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the department manager or supervisory staff.
