About the position

As a member of the Smith's Food and Drug team, you will play a crucial role in creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. Your responsibilities will include establishing and maintaining a safe and clean environment that encourages our customers to return. You will assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals while monitoring all established quality assurance standards. Embracing the Customer 1st strategy, you will encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service and demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customer return.
  • Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals.
  • Monitor all established quality assurance standards.
  • Embrace the Customer 1st strategy and encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.
  • Handle stressful situations effectively.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and associates.
  • Maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to customer inquiries.
  • Prepare produce platters/trays and inform customers of produce specials.
  • Recommend items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  • Inspect products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action with those items.
  • Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are kept.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of any repairs needed.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents and report safety risks or illegal activities.

Requirements

  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
  • Current food handlers permit once employed.

  • Comparable retail experience.
  • Second language (speaking, reading and/or writing).
