About the position

The Processing Librarian is a key member of the Records and Library Services team at Barr Engineering, providing essential support to approximately 1,200 internal clients across the United States and Canada. This role primarily focuses on processing records related to records management, with opportunities for future expansion. Daily tasks include managing project and corporate records, as well as occasional library material processing, while collaborating with team members to enhance the records management program.

Responsibilities

  • Providing records management services
  • Collaboratively implementing the growth of the records management program
  • Conveying directions to staff to access materials
  • Cataloging
  • Coordinating physical and digital retrieval of client records requests
  • Collaboratively developing and implementing conventions for processing and metadata entry
  • Analyzing, classifying, and entering metadata of project records and supporting documents
  • Supporting and assisting process improvements as they relate to records management
  • Supporting, assisting, and educating clients on records management practices and library services
  • Assisting with corporate legal matters as they relate to records management
  • Collaborating with other librarians on copyright review analysis and catalog updates
  • Conducting catalog maintenance
  • Contributing to ongoing improvement efforts in a team setting

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Five or more years of related experience working in a special library, public library, academic library, or archive
  • Ability to work a minimum of three days a week at Barr's Minneapolis office
  • Experience with cataloging
  • Experience working with an integrated library system (ILS)
  • Experience or knowledge of records management
  • Knowledge of copyright in a business environment
  • Ability to navigate state and federal laws related to copyright and records management
  • Exceptional organizational skills and expert attention to detail
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional customer service and ability to build strong relationships with internal clients
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and often proactively, with minimal oversight and supervision
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 35 pounds
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

  • Master's degree in library and information science
