About The Position

The Process Technician II performs all the mold set-up functions for production’s needs within the department. This would include but not be limited to: setting molds in plastic injection molding machines with all related connections and hook-ups, processing set-ups, testing dials and controls, performing general service duties and custodial/clean-up on equipment and for the department as necessary. Troubleshoots problems with mold operations, performs minor mold maintenance/repair, assists Process Technician with machine and equipment related problems.

Requirements

  • High school education or higher
  • An ability to read and write. Must be able to follow verbal as well as written instructions and measure accurately.
  • At least 2 years experience in the set-up of molds on plastic injection machines or experience equivalent and driving a forklift.
  • Must have a current valid Driver’s License.
  • Processing operation of molding equipment and robots
  • Moderate. Performs duties with moderate supervision, makes some independent judgments when setting/removing molds. Also, utilizes independent judgments when assisting or filling in for process technician, taking inventory.
  • Follow regulatory, company and departmental procedures implicitly.
  • In the execution of their job functions, Mold Setter personnel must focus on the quality aspect of their activities.
  • Doing the job right the first time and in a timely manner is important to meeting management expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Line clearances – remove all parts/items from a work center or cell to prepare for a different part/product/color/tool.
  • Mold removal – removal of a tool/mold either by whole or by half for the purpose of job change, repair, or other needs.
  • Mold installation – install a tool/mold either by whole or by half for the purpose of job change or other needs. Including correctly installing water, air, and electric serves.
  • Remove and install IMC (in-mold closers)
  • Machine controls/operation – be able to manipulate, set up, calibrate, move, machine functions – such as: open, close, clamp unit, move machine injection unit, move cores, ejectors as needed for specific molds.
  • Communication – must be able to update various time sheets, changeover paperwork, and communication boards as directed.
  • Move molds – must be able to move molds, by whole or by half, using a forklift or crane to and from machines and storage areas.
  • Collaborate – must be able to work as a team with the PT Level 1 during changeovers. Training and mentoring as needed.
  • Machine Dry-cycling – must be able to “test” machine for proper operation.
  • Shutdowns – must be able to safely and properly stop a machine for the purpose of changeover and other reasons as directed.
  • Re-starts – must be able to restart machines that have already been cycled in and approved.
  • Purging – must have a basic understanding of plastic flow/behavior/processing to safely purge molding machines.
  • Cleaning – must be able to follow platen cleaning procedures during MC assessing bolt ware and be able to identify and mark bad platen bolt holes for PM team.
