About the position

The Process Automation and Controls Engineer at Daedalus Industrial is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing control systems for various industrial processes. This role involves close collaboration with clients and multidisciplinary teams to enhance operational efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve safety through innovative automation solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement control systems for process automation, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and distributed control systems (DCS).
  • Develop detailed control strategies and system architectures to meet client specifications and process requirements.
  • Create system documentation, training manuals, and conduct training.
  • Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and automation devices as required as part of the control process.
  • Integrate process instrumentation and control devices, such as sensors, actuators, and variable frequency drives (VFDs) into the overall systems architecture.
  • Ensure seamless communication between control systems and process equipment utilizing network protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and Profibus.
  • Create and/or review FAT/SAT documentation.
  • Lead the testing, simulation, and validation of sequence of operation at customer sites.
  • Oversee the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of automation systems to ensure they perform as intended.
  • Collaborate with field teams and customers to ensure successful project handover and start-up.
  • Analyze system performance data to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and implement changes and upgrades to improve process efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance safety.
  • Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies in process automation and control systems.
  • Ensure that all control systems meet industry standards and regulatory requirements, including UL, CE, OSHA, NFPA, and SIL.
  • Maintain safety protocols and ensure all automation solutions are designed with safety at the forefront.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, or a related field (preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in process automation, control system design, and programming.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Rockwell's ControlLogix and GuardLogix, Siemens Simatic S7, and other PLCs).
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA solutions (PanelView, Inductive Automation, SIMATIC).
  • Strong understanding of process instrumentation and PID loops for pressure, flow, level, and temperature sensors.
  • Familiarity with Edge computing and cloud computing including ML and AI.
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus).
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control diagrams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel for on-site testing, commissioning, and support (roughly 30%).
