About the position

The PRN RN Orthopedics position at MUSC in West Ashley involves providing patient-centered care in an orthopedic setting. The role requires the nurse to assist and support patients and families in managing their healthcare, applying critical reasoning and clinical judgment to address complex health issues. The nurse will work under general supervision, interacting with medical staff and participating in patient care documentation and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient/family centered care, acting as partner and adviser.
  • Assists and supports patients and families to optimally manage their health care.
  • Applies critical reasoning and astute clinical judgment to expedite appropriate care and treatment.
  • Interviews/screen patients to obtain personal data and chief complaint.
  • Documents findings relevant to patients' health care status or plan of care accurately and consistently.
  • Prioritizes and documents patient incoming phone calls regarding medications and medical conditions.
  • Cleans and stocks examination rooms and/or other supply areas.
  • Documents all patient care delivered in the medical record according to policy.

Requirements

  • Current RN License in South Carolina or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred, or enrollment in an accredited BSN program if hired with an Associate or Diploma degree.
  • Minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in orthopedic nursing or related field.
  • Additional certifications in nursing specialties.
