About the position

The Private Wealth Services Tax Manager will oversee the preparation and review of complex tax returns while providing strategic tax planning for high net worth clients. This role emphasizes collaboration with the Private Wealth Services Tax team to enhance client service and identify tax savings opportunities. The position requires strong leadership and mentoring skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple client engagements effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct primary and secondary reviews of complex tax returns.
  • Provide income, estate, and gift tax planning strategies for high net worth clients.
  • Interact closely with clients' other advisers, such as attorneys and financial asset managers.
  • Manage multiple client service teams on client engagements; plan, execute, direct, and complete tax projects.
  • Provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise to clients.
  • Assist in proposal activities and manage to budget.
  • Manage, develop, train, and mentor staff on tax projects and assess performance for engagement and year-end reviews.
  • Research and consult on various tax matters, primarily in federal estate, gift, charitable planning, and generation-skipping tax areas.
  • Utilize tax-related software to prepare and process returns and research tax matters.
  • Respond to inquiries from the IRS and other tax authorities.
  • Maintain active communication with clients to manage expectations and enhance client relationships.
  • Support business development activities, such as identification, proposal development, and other pursuit activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA or licensed member of the Bar or Enrolled Agent designation (with Masters Degree) required.
  • Minimum six to ten years of progressive tax compliance and/or consulting experience in Family Wealth Planning or related area in public accounting or a combination of industry and public accounting experience.
  • Experience dealing with family units with $25 million and above in net worth, with a proven track record of implementing tax strategies.
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills.
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships.
  • Strong leadership, business development, recruiting, training, coaching, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities in a fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment.
