About the position

The Private Sector Officer (Senior Finance & Investment Advisor) position at USAID is focused on advancing Prosper Africa's investment mobilization and facilitation strategy. The incumbent will provide technical expertise to build financial intermediation ecosystems, support early-stage investments, mobilize U.S. institutional investor capital, and drive systemic change in investment tools for African markets. This role involves project design, management responsibilities, and collaboration with various U.S. government agencies to enhance trade and investment between the U.S. and African nations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise to advance Prosper Africa's investment mobilization and facilitation strategy.
  • Build the ecosystem for financial intermediation, including fund managers and investment banks.
  • Support early-stage investment in start-ups and SMEs to drive innovation in key sectors.
  • Mobilize U.S. institutional investor capital for large-scale infrastructure and growth capital projects.
  • Drive systemic change in investment tools for managing risk in African markets.
  • Take on direct project design and management responsibilities.
  • Conduct private sector outreach and partnership development.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with AFR and Mission technical experts and other U.S. government agencies.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (FL-02).
  • Experience in country affairs and program areas related to international economic development and investment.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret-level security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with investment finance project design and management.
  • Demonstrated investment finance facilitation and/or economic development experience.
  • Experience working on economic development in Africa.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with diverse audiences.
  • Detail- and deadline-oriented.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with other USAID units and U.S. departments.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $132,860 - $191,900 per year.
  • Possibility of two two-year extensions on the time-limited appointment.
