About the position

This senior leadership role is responsible for leading the firm's strategic approach to delivering high-quality private markets investment opportunities to private wealth clients. The position involves overseeing a team that sources direct investments and collaborates with various teams to underwrite both direct and fund investments. The role is pivotal in the approval of private markets products and alternative investment offerings, ensuring client-centered decision-making, and enhancing the distribution and product support model for optimal client experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the team demonstrates a commitment to the firm's core values
  • Develops short and long-term goals and initiatives to achieve strategic vision
  • Sources best in class co-invest and direct offerings
  • Constructs opinions around various investment opportunities and efficiently communicates them both verbally and in writing
  • Builds and leads an industry-leading team of professionals
  • Maintains knowledge and contacts necessary to ensure that Raymond James' private markets investments platform remains competitive
  • Leads the team that maintains relationships with financial advisors to drive sales objectives and to increase financial advisor utilization
  • Identifies and executes on opportunities to evolve and grow through innovation
  • Provides best in class service to partners, advisors, and colleagues throughout the organization
  • Partners with origination and research teams to establish a cohesive, well-structured forward pipelines
  • Assesses commercial viability for potential offerings
  • Contributes to investment committee meetings
  • Builds collaborative partnerships with other teams involved in sourcing and offering non-traditional investment offerings
  • Ensures a structured approach to launches of new offerings, including product positioning, marketing materials, and sales training by partnering with other areas that source and underwrite opportunities
  • Delivers effective presentations to large audiences that may include financial advisors, clients, and other professionals that participate in servicing the needs of clients
  • Ensures balanced education on alternative strategies and products
  • Performs human resources activities including coaching and mentoring team, talent retention and attraction, talent development and performance management
  • Plans, assigns, monitors, reviews, evaluates, and leads the work of the team
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Business Administration or Finance
  • MBA preferred
  • Twenty (20) years of experience in private markets
  • Advanced knowledge of the alternatives industry, particularly private markets
  • Advanced knowledge of complex investment products (e.g., hedge funds, private equity, real estate, private credit, etc.) and the markets in which they invest
  • Strong sense of risk/reward trade-offs, and an ability to display sound investment judgement and analysis
  • Knowledge of competitive landscape (i.e., alternative investment platforms of other wealth management firms)
  • Principles of banking and finance and securities industry operations
  • Quantitative and qualitative understanding of the investment management business and performance measurement
  • Macro and micro economics and their impact on investment strategies
  • Financial markets, products, financial advisory function, and investment process
  • Advanced investment concepts, practices, and procedures used in the securities industry
  • Business intuition to manage and build long-term relationships
  • Cultivating and maintaining effective working relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Forward thinking with a demonstrated track record of successfully developing and implementing strategic plans calling for substantial asset growth
  • Proven negotiation, conflict resolution and relationship management skills
  • Identifying the needs of customers through effective questioning and listening techniques
  • Preparing and delivering clear, convincing, and professional sales presentations to small and large audiences
  • Organizing, managing and tracking multiple tasks and assignments with frequently conflicting demands
