About The Position

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is a national engineering firm seeking a Principal-level leader to participate in the growth and development of its Washington, DC Structural Engineering (SE) Division. The division aims to expand its structural investigation practice area, and SGH is looking for a recognized technical expert with a proven business track record to contribute to this growth. The role requires expertise in the forensic evaluation of structures and their failures, litigation support, and a deep understanding of structural performance under environmental loading and related to durability. Experience with structural repair and rehabilitation, and materials science capabilities would be beneficial. The Principal will collaborate with the Washington, DC Building Technology (BT) Division on projects involving both disciplines. Responsibilities include business development, project delivery through client relationships, strategic marketing, project management, and technical expertise and oversight. The role involves marketing, organizing, coordinating, and executing project assignments, leading, supervising, supporting, mentoring, and training staff, and fostering technological achievement, business development, and collaboration within a team atmosphere emphasizing high-quality products. Principals at SGH also play key roles on professional committees and contribute to technical publications. SGH's Washington, DC office is its second-largest, with a robust team in Building Technology, Structural Engineering, and Advanced Analysis, and benefits from access to a national team of experts.

Requirements

  • Master of Science, Master of Engineering, or Doctorate in Structural Engineering or related field required.
  • 15+ years of professional experience in structural engineering.
  • Must have a Professional Engineer (PE) license or Structural Engineer (SE) license, SE preferred.
  • Experience with and a desire to conduct leading-edge work and experience leading projects that require finding and communicating creative solutions outside the standard.
  • Notable track record of recognized technical excellence and market leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong client relationships and a substantial revenue base.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills with a commitment to developing high-level talent.
  • Participation in professional society activities and publications.
  • Experience as an accomplished public speaker.
  • Commitment to and track record of professional collaboration.
  • High standards of ethics and honesty.
