About The Position

The Lead Discovery and Optimization Group in San Diego focuses on delivering novel therapeutics for disease intervention by harnessing E3 ubiquitin ligases for targeted protein degradation and other induced-proximity modalities. We are seeking a highly motivated Biochemist with a strong scientific background and expertise in the discovery and characterization of small molecules. The successful candidate will work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment to develop and execute biochemical and biophysical assays in support of small molecule discovery and preclinical development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree + 8+ years of academic/industry experience OR Master's Degree + 6+ years of academic/industry experience OR PhD + 4+ years of academic/industry experience in biochemistry, enzymology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • A consistent track record of impact on drug discovery programs through the judicious use of science and technology.
  • Strong expertise in biochemical and biophysical assay design, problem solving skills, data analysis and management, along with experience applying modern technologies and automation.
  • Proficiency in biochemical assay development including proximity-based assays (such as TR-FRET and AlphaScreen), and/or biophysical assays such as DSF, SPR, ITC, and CETSA).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex scientific results to a broad audience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in drug discovery in the targeted protein degradation and/or induced-proximity space is highly preferred.
  • Supervisory experience, strong team-building skills, and the ability to interact with and manage external project teams, outside collaborators, and/or commercial vendors are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct biochemical and biophysical assays to evaluate small-molecule affinity, mechanism of action, and structure activity relationships across discovery programs.
  • Bring strategic insight into program support and ensuring robust and innovative solutions and approaches towards the development of suitable assays for hit triage, SAR support, and MOA study.
  • Drive scientific innovation in targeted protein degradation, induced proximity, and high throughput screening platforms by identifying and advancing new assay technologies and experimental approaches.
  • Provide technical and scientific leadership at the bench and in data analysis, solving complex assay challenges while improving assay robustness, reproducibility, throughput, and data quality across multiple programs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Contribute to regulatory and scientific documentation, including investigator brochures, IND-enabling materials, and other key project deliverables, as appropriate.
  • Serve as a key scientific partner to cross-functional teams, including medicinal chemistry, structural biology, cell biology, pharmacology, and project leadership, to shape program strategy and advance portfolio objectives.
  • Mentor and develop junior scientists, fostering scientific excellence, collaboration, and a strong laboratory culture.

Benefits

  • Medical, pharmacy, dental, and vision care.
  • BMS Well-Being Account, BMS Living Life Better, and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).
  • 401(k) plan, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, accident insurance, supplemental health insurance, business travel protection, personal liability protection, identity theft benefit, legal support, and survivor support.
  • flexible time off (unlimited, with manager approval, 11 paid national holidays (not applicable to employees in Phoenix, AZ, Puerto Rico or Rayzebio employees))
  • 160 hours annual paid vacation for new hires with manager approval, 11 national holidays, and 3 optional holidays
  • unlimited paid sick time, up to 2 paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, and military needs and an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas and New Years Day.
