About the position

Mach Industries is seeking an experienced and innovative Principal Mechanical Engineer to serve as a technical lead in the design and development of advanced mechanical systems for next-generation high-speed flight vehicles. In this role, you will focus on the design, analysis, and optimization of critical mechanical components and assemblies, with a strong emphasis on lightweight materials, carbon fiber composites, and additive manufacturing techniques. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that mechanical systems meet demanding performance, reliability, and scalability requirements, contributing to the success of autonomous defense platforms. Your expertise will drive the technical execution of challenging projects while collaborating with engineers across disciplines to deliver cutting-edge solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical lead in the mechanical design of high-speed flight vehicles, focusing on the integration of structural, thermal, and aerodynamic considerations.
  • Design and analyze lightweight components using advanced materials such as carbon fiber composites and high-performance 3D-printed materials.
  • Contribute to the prototyping and testing of flight vehicles, supporting the development of test plans, data analysis, and design iteration.
  • Generate technical documentation, including detailed CAD models, design specifications, analysis reports, and testing protocols.
  • Stay current with advancements in materials science, manufacturing processes, and mechanical engineering techniques to drive innovation in designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design and analysis, preferably in aerospace or defense industries.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools and simulation software, such as NX, Teamcenter, ANSYS, or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience with lightweight materials, including carbon fiber composites and advanced polymers.
  • Strong understanding of additive manufacturing techniques, including the design and validation of 3D-printed components.
  • Knowledge of structural mechanics, heat transfer, and materials behavior under high-speed flight conditions.
  • Proven ability to take mechanical designs from concept to prototype, including testing and validation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience with high-speed flight vehicles, including hypersonic or supersonic systems, and their specific mechanical design challenges.
  • Familiarity with aerodynamic and thermal loads affecting high-speed vehicle components.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced manufacturing processes, including composites layup, machining, and 3D printing.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering problems in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
