About the position

The Principal in Residence position at Prodeo Academy is designed to prepare a leader for a future role as Principal. This role involves deep immersion in the Prodeo way of education, allowing the individual to collaborate closely with the current Principal and other leaders to achieve the school's instructional and academic goals for the 2024-2026 school year. The position emphasizes leadership, community engagement, and strategic planning to enhance student achievement and foster a positive school culture.

Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with current Principal in instructional and school leadership areas.
  • Provide exemplary leadership to achieve outstanding performance in the school's mission of preparing each student for college.
  • Lead efforts to dramatically improve student achievement by overseeing the educational program.
  • Prepare for taking over leadership in the following school year, serving as the point person for all students and families.
  • Develop and communicate the school's systems, culture, and vision, creating a plan to achieve that vision.
  • Coach staff in alignment with Prodeo curriculum and state standards.
  • Plan for effective internal and external assessment systems, using data to inform decisions.
  • Select and share effective curricular and instructional practices with other schools.
  • Oversee faculty and staff recruitment, selection, evaluation, supervision, retention, and dismissal.
  • Lead coaching and data meetings for grade teams in accordance with the Getting Better Faster coaching model.
  • Manage teaching staff, including professional development and curriculum development, in preparation for full school leadership.
  • Ensure all staff provide well-managed and rigorous daily lessons and effective homework assignments.
  • Foster commitment among faculty and staff to the school's mission and objectives.
  • Hold teachers accountable for high standards in student academic and behavioral performance.
  • Collaborate on curricular, instructional, assessment, and professional development issues to ensure data drives classroom instruction.
  • Foster consistency in implementing the Student and Family Handbook and discipline policies.
  • Facilitate positive faculty dynamics and work with the Special Education Coordinator to meet student needs.
  • Maintain communication with families, ensuring their involvement in their children's performance.
  • Create plans to build relationships with students and families and communicate regularly about student performance.
  • Plan and support family meetings and special events, responding to family concerns promptly.
  • Collaborate with staff to support students' academic and socio-emotional development.
  • Provide leadership in establishing a positive, structured, achievement-oriented school culture.
  • Oversee students' academic and behavioral programs, including disciplinary decisions and scheduling.
  • Create plans to maintain traditions that support the school's college mission.
  • Ensure effective exam preparation and smooth administration of after-school enrichment programs.
  • Help oversee school-wide strategic planning and problem solving.
  • Collaborate with Co-Founders and other leaders to lead the school's administrative program.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree; master's degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated record of high student achievement as a teacher and school leader.
  • Three years of experience as an Assistant Principal or equivalent experience as an Academic Leader strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to obtain continuing education as needed.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and experience in solving challenging problems collaboratively.
  • Expert-level written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Excellent organization skills and consistency in meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated initiative in relationship building, educational leadership, communication, conflict resolution, creativity, problem solving, decision-making, and time management.
