About the position

The Principal Engineer - Data Science at EchoStar Corporation is a key role within the Hughes Network Systems division, responsible for designing, building, and deploying cloud-based solutions and infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop predictive models and insightful visualizations, leveraging large datasets to enhance telecommunications systems performance, and creating an integrated data analytics platform. The role requires extensive experience in data science, machine learning, and cloud computing, with a focus on delivering actionable insights to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, build, and deploy cloud-based solutions and infrastructure on GCP.
  • Create interactive, meaningful and insightful visualizations to communicate findings and insights effectively to internal teams and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and deploy predictive models, recommendation models, time series, etc., to provide future predictions for specified enterprise objectives.
  • Continuously seek out additional data points that can be leveraged to improve accuracy and applicability of the model's results.
  • Work with large datasets using tools like SQL, Pandas, or similar frameworks.
  • Design and implement complete and complex data modeling and analytics to measure the performances of telecommunication systems.
  • Work with a team of developers with deep experience in machine learning, distributed microservices, and full stack systems.
  • Apply knowledge in statistics, AI/ML coding and development, cloud-based analytics platform to create an integrated data analytics platform for complex communications systems.
  • Collaborate with leaders and managers to determine and address data and reporting needs for various company projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, computer science, data analytics or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience as a Data Science Engineer.
  • 5+ years' Advanced Data Analysis using statistical Modeling and Machine Learning along with data visualization.
  • 5+ years' experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in data science, computer science, data analytics or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills commonly used for data analysis and machine learning such as R and Python.
  • Experience with GCP, IAM, DB, streaming, and build and deploy services.
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and fine-tuning machine learning models for various applications (e.g., classification, regression, clustering, recommendation systems).
  • Experience with machine learning techniques and algorithms (e.g., TensorFlow, sklearn, numpy, pytorch) and their applications.
  • Experience with deep learning and neural networks.
  • Experience designing applications for observability using metrics, monitoring, logging, and alarming.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and libraries such as Power BI & Tableau.
  • Familiarity with big data technologies like Snowflake, Big query, or other distributed computing frameworks.
  • Knowledge of SQL and databases for data retrieval and manipulation.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience presenting findings and insights to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with GIT, Confluence, Jira, and Bitbucket.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, and data manipulation techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills.
