About the position

Divergent is seeking a Principal Design Engineer, Structures Aerospace & Defense to lead the development of innovative aerospace frame architectures. This role focuses on transforming traditional manufacturing processes by utilizing new materials and technologies, aiming to create lightweight structural solutions that meet mission-critical needs in the Aerospace and Defense sector.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage CAD models for individual Nodes™ and full structure assemblies.
  • Manage BOM creation and population of the Nodes and hardware.
  • Collaborate with inter-group engineers to understand manufacturing/design capabilities and limitations.
  • Ensure proposed design changes can be efficiently produced and assembled.
  • Work in a team environment to meet cross-functional requirements and safety targets.
  • Present design summaries and comprehensive reports at customer meetings and to other engineers.
  • Create, refine, and execute new technical solutions for aerospace structures.
  • Implement cost reduction methods and product improvements.
  • Support prototype and production build activities.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience in aerospace structure design.
  • 8+ years of CAD experience creating detailed and intricate models.
  • 8+ years of PLM experience.
  • Solid understanding of linear/nonlinear behaviors of advanced materials (composites, adhesives, metals).
  • Experience with aerospace load applications and MIL-STDs.
  • Outstanding comprehension of solid mechanics.
  • Experience interfacing with engineering, testing, and manufacturing groups.
  • Experience supporting analysis and completing documentation for airworthiness certifications.
  • Experience supporting or engaging with DoD airworthiness stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting structural design and analysis throughout the design, build, and test phases.
  • Experience with fast iteration prototyping programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with Siemens NX.
  • Experience with Teamcenter.
  • Knowledge of overall vehicle systems/sub-systems and requirements.
