About the position

We are looking for an experienced Principal Data Scientist (PHD & 5-7+ Years of Experience) to join our team and help develop a sophisticated inventory placement model. This model plays a vital role in efficiently distributing items across our network of warehouses and stores by considering various inputs such as forecasts, network costs, and structure. At Walmart Global Tech, we are leading the way in revolutionizing retail through advanced technology and data science. Our team of experts is committed to solving current supply chain challenges and conducting research and development to create models that address the future requirements of our complex omni-channel international business.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement advanced algorithms for dynamic inventory placement.
  • Analyze large datasets to extract actionable insights and refine model inputs, including forecasts and cost structures.
  • Employ optimization and machine learning techniques in inventory placement to improve efficiency and reduce costs across the network.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, engineers, and supply chain specialists, merchandisers, and product managers to ensure seamless integration and implementation of models.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Data Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • PhD in Data Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 7+ years of experience post grad school.
  • Outstanding skills in programming in Python, SQL/Spark; statistics, forecasting, data analytics, machine learning, and optimization tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Data science, machine learning, optimization models, PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics.
  • Publications or active peer reviewer in related journals or conference.
  • Successful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R.
  • Using open source frameworks (for example, scikit learn, tensorflow, torch).
  • Knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
