About the position

The Prevention Advocate is responsible for developing, implementing, and driving a community-based prevention and awareness project across various health care facilities, schools, and civic organizations within a six-county service area. This role involves collaboration with community leaders and requires experience in domestic violence outreach, project assessment, and data collection. The position operates under the supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator and requires effective communication and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the overall development and implementation of the Prevention Project under the supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Represent the agency at community coalitions and meetings.
  • Provide training and educational exercises to community members.
  • Attend community tabling events to spread awareness of FAC and domestic violence.
  • Regularly take inventory of promotional products and educational handouts and work with the Volunteer Coordinator to replenish inventory as needed.
  • Lead ongoing assessment efforts in the form of surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
  • Conduct research on educational best practices and new and relevant curriculum.
  • Create, develop, and maintain presentations and curriculum.
  • Implement an evaluation process for projects and outreach events.
  • Foster new and maintain current project-essential partnerships to achieve the project's goals.
  • Maintain all records, statistics, and documentation as needed.
  • Provide Prevention data for grant reports as needed.
  • Coordinate with other FAC staff to ensure seamless communication.
  • Develop working relationships with education professionals, community agencies, faith-based organizations, medical professionals, volunteers, and other entities that work with or encounter victims of family violence.
  • Believe in and act in accordance with the agency's mission statement and goals.
  • Write reports, notes, and correspondence as needed.
  • Assist the Volunteer Coordinator in identifying and organizing Prevention Team goals.
  • Document all community outreach work.
  • Work with diverse populations and groups.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, human services, marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, or related field.
  • 1-3 years experience in the field of domestic and/or sexual violence preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse people and groups.
  • Experience working for systemic changes in the community.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working as a team member.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to resolve conflict and receive supervision.
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrates crisis intervention skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive topics with clarity and understanding.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize job responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Canva.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully to different audiences.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems.
  • Ability to maintain accurate data and document outreach efforts.
  • Public speaking skills.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and clear driving record.

Nice-to-haves
