About the position

The Preschool/Youth Sports Instructor will work under the direction of the Pre-School/Youth Site Coordinator to conduct Pre-School/Youth programs. The role requires good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in managing day-to-day operations. All activities must comply with City safety rules and regulations, as well as federal, state, and local laws. The position involves interacting with the public and other city employees with patience and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Accepts Pre-School & Youth site assignments and may switch sites and activities as needed.
  • Reports directly to the Pre-School/Youth Site Coordinator.
  • Attends May In-Service Training Orientation, including seasonal employee training.
  • Attends all weekly staff meetings.
  • Assists in organizing, teaching, supervising, and evaluating weekly activities in games, crafts, and recreational sports classes.
  • Encourages and motivates children to attend regularly.
  • Meets with the Preschool/Youth Site Coordinator to plan daily activities.
  • Responsible for completing weekly lesson plans two weeks prior to activities.
  • Records accurate daily attendance reports for each sport and submits them weekly.
  • Collects and compiles program evaluations at the end of the season.
  • Ensures the safety of each participant and maintains discipline.
  • Manages equipment and supplies, ensuring they are maintained and used properly.
  • Participates in a final personnel evaluation.
  • Reports and documents any issues with children and adults to the appropriate coordinators.
  • Contributes to the weekly summary of activities for staff meetings.
  • Wears Park Department Pre-School/Youth Staff T-shirt during working hours.
  • Submits timecards to the Pre-School/Youth Site Supervisor.
  • Reports irregularities and abnormal conditions on the work site.
  • Arrives at the site 30 minutes before the scheduled start time and stays 15 minutes after the last class.

Requirements

  • One or more years of experience in Education, Recreation, Sports, or a related field working with children.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age with sports and/or craft experience.
  • Must have transportation available at all times.
  • Good leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with children ages 18 months to 14 years.

  • Pay rate of $14-$16/hour.
